| Meet the Feeding Many Team | | | Shirl Smith - President & CEO | I am currently a Professor with Colorado Technical University Online, the vision for this company actually came to me while I was still a student. A task was laid at my feet that would give me the ability to change the lives of thousands of people, all I had to do was pick it up and see it through to maturity. Today, the next step in the development of this non-profit organization is to generate the means to make these dreams more feasible for a greater number of people. I am only one person; however, with your help, we can bring to many others the ability to thrive in a world in which it is common to struggle for survival. I am thankful for the experiences that I have had (and will continue to have) during my path to obtaining my Doctoral degree with the Institute for Advanced Studies Colorado Technical University, support of friends, experience, and the reliance on faith; I have created this company.
As you can see, our goal is to feed people. We are not here to create a network of giving but a piece of hope in knowing how to create a greater good for yourself and the community through implementations of community vegetable gardens, food sharing programs, and the knowledge needed not simply to survive, but to create something more for yourself. In every person is a dream waiting to become reality, my goal is to eliminate one more obstacle in the path to becoming as successful as you and I can dream. My hope is that one day; you will become an angel to someone and carry on the tradition of giving. | | Phillip Johnston - Vice President & Board of Directors | Born in 1976, I was raised in rural America; southwestern Virginia. I learned the lessons that poverty can bring early on in my childhood. Learning to survive through gardening and store housing of the harvest through canning or freezing, I saw first hand how rough life could be. I graduated from high school in June of 1994 and attempted to pursue educational goals while joining the workforce.
I began striving for the benefit of others in 1995 when I worked for a retirement community in northwestern Virginia. This was my passion; I enjoyed working toward the benefit and support of others who needed my assistance. I continued working with people on a small scale until 2003 when I began working for a Fortune 300 company. In 2004, I met the president of Feeding Many, Inc. and developed a friendship and eventually a business relationship.
I am proud to be part of Feeding Many, Inc. because of the alignment of the company’s vision and mission with that of my own. I believe in this organization and the work that it has and will do for the communities in which it serves. This organization has the ability to touch the lives of many and create a network of support that could help governments all over the country to eliminate (or at the least drastically reduce) hunger and food insecurity. | | Matt Johnson - Board of Directors & Fund Raising | I grew up on the island of Antigua in the West Indies. My parents are missionaries establishing several Churches, a Christian school, a Bible Institute and a Youth ministry that covers the entire Caribbean. I left home in 1979 to attend college at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee where I met my wife, Cheli. After marriage and then graduating, we moved to Salina, Kansas. We started our family, two girls and a boy. In 1991, we moved to Wichita, Kansas. I served as the Station Manager/Area Representative for a national religious radio network based in Charlotte, North Carolina. During my 14 years, I raised over $2.76M dollars in private donations with a net income of $1.63M.
I serve as chairman of the board for Campus Kids Ministries, Inc. A non-profit group that establishes weekly after school bible clubs in the Wichita metro area public schools.
I serve as the Manager of Church Relations for a faith-based social service agency in Wichita, KS. Our focus is foster care, family reintegration and adoption. My passion is to connect people of faith with the kids in our care. Christmas season 2008, I was successful in securing over $100K in gifts for our clients.
I look forward to working with Feeding Many. I am passionate about caring for those who are at a disadvantage. | | Pam McNish - Secretary | I am a Colorado native, single mother blessed with one son. I have been a licensed manicures for over 28 years working in many of the upscale salons in the Denver area. My Grandparents and Mother always had lovely flower gardens and I have fond memories of the time spent with them tending the garden.
My passion for gardening has grown to include vegetables over the last summer while working with Feeding Many. It has been a blessing in many ways to be a part of this wonderful organization. I love the community outreach aspect and vision Shirl shares with all involved. Working for Feeding Many has been a new learning adventure I hope to share with others. | | Cindi Rhule - Treasurer | I grew up in Denver, attending CSU in Ft Collins, graduating with a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. After graduation I worked in public accounting for Deloitte & Touche, LLP. After obtaining my CPA in 1987 I transitioned to industry Accounting. I have over twenty years working in various industries as a Corporate Controller. I am currently unemployed searching for a Controller or CFO position with a company that is working to make a difference in the world.
As a young girl my family participated in a neighborhood garden. My sister’s and I used the vegetables from this garden to compete in 4-H. We were fortunate to win at the local competition which allowed us to compete for several years at the State Fair in Pueblo, CO. This was a fun opportunity to work on a project together as a family.
We spent many mornings during the summer watering and weeding our garden together, which has provided us with a strong work ethic and many fond memories.
When I discovered that the Feeding Many Organization was in search of a Treasurer, I thought that it would be an opportunity to become involved in an excellent community project, and one that would help so many people. Working together with the members of Feeding Many has allowed me to apply my Accounting experience to the benefit of the community that I live in. This is a service that I enjoy promoting, and will do all that I can to assist in their mission. I currently reside in this area with my husband of 23 years, and our 2 teenage boys. |
